I was working on a few projects here at work and stopped to talk to one of our technicians, Tom Davenport. Tom and I were discussing a few topics – one of which happened to be on a Political Opinion spam call that I got on my cell phone. To make it even more annoying, my wife got the same call not 10 seconds after I got it. This had been going on for several weeks and about three or four days in between. Tom began to talk about an app that he had on his cell phone called Call Control by Kedlin Company (http://www.everycall.us). This app quickly became a must on the cell.

While Call Control has been out for a while (4+ years), they were big (and still) towards the Blackberry market and until somewhat recently (and by recently I mean several years) they have the app for iPhone and Droid. Based on what I found, this app deserves another shout out from a happy user. I have a Droid Razr Maxx and I got Call Control from Google Play (posted Feb 25, 2012). Here are a few features that you can get with Call Control:

  • Blacklist (block) specific phone number(s)
  • Whitelist (never block) specific phone number(s)
  • Block SPAM calls and texts
  • Automatically send calls to voicemail or hangup on them
  • Backup black list online or on SD card for easy phone transfer
  • Free reverse lookup
  • Area Code Blocking (ie. 888 or 800 etc.)
  • Block private or unknown callers

To give it a test, I quickly took the phone number from my logs to the “Report Call” function and within five seconds I noticed that this was added to the everycall.us database and inserted the report on their website. I have not received a call from that number since. To make sure that the “Community” is working for you, I checked my “Blocked Log” (which is basically my Black List and the large Community’s Black List) and found that I had a call come in for me from another number but immediately was blocked because of a report from someone else. My phone never rang. That is a sweet function.

Everything is extremely easy with this product and as of to date, there are over 4.8 million numbers that Call Control is monitoring. Call Control has two versions – Pro ($7.99) and Free (which I am using and it runs great!). I highly recommend that anyone who has any of these smartphone platforms – Blackberry, iPhone, or Droid, download this and give it a whirl. For those people that get harassing calls, spam calls, etc, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks Tom for the recommendation!
